The Guide to Direct Commerce Systems and Services

The Guide to Direct Commerce Systems and Services is designed to be the only comprehensive source of information about all the major types of systems and services required to manage a fully-enabled and successful direct commerce business (eCommerce, catalog, call center, and fulfillment center).

A work in progress, we are focusing initially on Multi-channel Order Management Systems and will include third-party call center and fulfillment facilities in the near future, as well as eCommerce, Search Engine Optimization, and Site Search tools.

Join the conversation at the Direct Commerce Systems Forum.

Please select "How to Use This Site" from the Info Central listing in the Nav bar for a look at what you will be able to do on this site.

Payment Application Data Security Standard

As of July 1, 2010, all direct commerce order management systems that accept credit card numbers for order payment are supposed to be compliant with data security standards established by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC). These regulations, embodied in the Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS), apply to all order management systems used in a call center where credit card payment is accepted, unless the card data is entered directly into a third-party module dedicated exclusively to payment processing or into a hosted solution with no data maintained locally. PA-DSS may also apply to eCommerce shopping carts unless they are completely external to, and not interfaced to, the eCommerce platform.
